I've got some vacation time that I have to plan and I thought I'd put out a question for some suggestions on the best vacation spot within a days drive from South East Michgan. I'm planing on sometime early fall.

Any recommendations on a specific hotel or resort up there?

Grats sky on global mod status. I actually suggest cedar point, its 4 hours from most anywhere in SE Michigan. For in state though I agree with the Upper Peninsula idea. Nothing like some Mackinaw Island fudge. Chicago is 7 hours, if you head west on 696. Also, since you said within a days drive I felt i should mention that I managed to get to southern Florida in 20 hours. Hop I-75 and take that until you get to Jacksonville and then bam you're in Florida.

I would have to say Mackinaw Island and, or Saulte Saint Marie. Plus if you're going in the Fall, when the leaves are turning, it should be a beautiful drive up.

Yeah Mackinaw is sounding real good right now. I can't believe I didn't even think of that. Where is Saulte Saint Marie? I've never been to either place so if you guys had to pick one or the other which one would you do? I guess also if they're somewhat close to each other maybe I can do both.

Saulte Saint Marie is where the Soo Locks are, it's about an hour north on I-75 past Mackinaw.

Although I advise heading north only on the hottest of days. It might seem relatively close, yet once you get up there the temperature drops about 10 degrees all around.

Sorry this is a bit off topic but it's in off topic anyways but how do you insert a quote from a previous post like what Oakey did? Sorry I'm a bit slow when it comes to the techniques of posting.

Thanks sky. We're for sure going there. We're just in the process now of looking for a good hotel.

Very simple actually, there is a button in the right hand corner of someones post, it says "quote." You click that, and you are redirected into a reply format. It's pretty much self explanatory from there.
