Well hello there, it's been awhile since I've posted here. Being a resident of GA, I've really felt no need to. I'm looking to possibly head back up there this summer after AIT, and before I drop a bit of cash to relocate up there, I'd like to get an honest point of view, as I have no serious source of information. I hear Michigan's economy is taking a major shit, and jobs are rather hard to come by. Most of my friends that live up there, are students, so they really haven't spent much time looking into a major career/job.
I know asking on a airsoft message board is rather stupid, but there are some guys on the boards that have their heads in the right places, and maybe could offer some more insight.
Like I said, I haven't been up there in going on 2 years, so, I have no idea how bad it is up there. Post AIT (63), I will be trained in the mechanic field, not entirely too much, but I'd definitely have my upper hand on a lot more than the typical Joe Schmoe. So a mechanic job wouldn't be that bad of an idea, I just can't seem to find any real openings online, and know most good mechanic shops don't really post their openings online, because they're looking for locals obviously.
Another possibility would be to get into law enforcement. Being 19, a police officer is obviously out of the question (gotta be 21 to carry), but perhaps Detroit or Macomb County is hiring jailers?
I'm fairly convinced that maybe it isn't the problem of finding jobs, but rather, finding applicants that have the experience to do the jobs. However, I could be wrong.
So basically, I'm asking of a brief opinion of the job situation up there. I'm currently employed down here, and as well in the reserves. So if it is as bad as my student friends have told me then maybe I'll reconsider.
If you were down here, in a pretty prosperous state, would you relocate to Michigan?
I'm posting this on the SEMIA board, because I would prefer to move back to the Macomb County region, Roseville, Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Harrison Township, those areas are my ideal locations.
Danke.
Also, I would still be in the reserves up there.
P.S. If you really don't have any useful information, please don't waste the time typing your response up.

Well, it all depends on what type of skills you have, aside from Army training (which I found out doesn't count for JACK SHIT as a civilian). I do know that the State Police are looking for more troopers, but being unable to attain a Concealed Weapons license, that makes things difficult. If you have skills, such as construction, you'll have a much easier time, as I've seen some construction jobs, such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Out of curiosity, do you have a unit lined up in Michigan? If so, what unit? I'm in the reserves myself, just wondering if they'll send you my way, we need mechanics!

No, no unit set up yet, I've just been pondering it for quite some time. A friend of mine said he can get me a job part time at a Tool & Die Factory, but it's not nearly enough to support me, and my habits . I may take it up, while taking classes at MCC. A 2 year degree in Criminal Justice will end just in time for me to try to get a job in the Law Enforcement field. If you don't mind, could you share what unit you're in? If you are short of mechanics, I'll definitely take a look into it. Also, where do you report to for drill? If you don't want to post it online, you can PM me.

I moved to Missouri about a month ago, My only regret is leaving so many friends behind. SkyPilot was kind enough to frame some "EL money" as a going away present. A little part of me dies inside when I see it. However I do smile remembering all the fun I had in all those pictures

I know you're in the mechanic field, and just moved, and maybe could provide a better position.

Unless you have a really good job lined up already (like a dealership, which is unlikely because those jobs are held closely, or promptly filled) don't bother moving "god bless the USA, Except Michigan. Michigan Sucks!" -JumpRefusal

I disagree, I'm in the construction field, it's slowly dying. Good luck finding one that pays decent. I've been laid off since Dec. 21st and have been actively seeking a different career path without luck yet. If I were you and GA is in a better economic state, stay there. It sucks here.

Michigan Sucks!" -JumpRefusal It's "God Bless the USA. Except Michigan. Fuck Michigan." You can check into AGR positions, but you're fresh and they usually don't dish those out to new people. Also you can consider recruiting if you really want to stay in Michigan. It's not all terrible, and the pay is good. Again though you'll need to wait until you're an E4 at least.

Can recruiters request where to get assigned or something? I'm looking at my E4 around Sept/Octoberish. Just need to pass the PT test scheduled then.

Orion, stay there. I'm a professional looking for a job, as word has it my position is being downsized to a Indian Company to 'save money'. As a result I'm looking for something new, I started looking two weeks ago and I've only gotten two hits for a job, and they are crappy support positions. In short, there is nothing here. Even the so-called set for life positions with the State are vanishing. There's no ecomony in this state, and it hasn't bottomed out yet either. I suggest you stay there. Enjoy the warm winter months, and beautiful women.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured it was gonna be a no-go, just hoping. I think I'll just settle for my second option and head out to Portland, OR.
Sky pilot. I have yet to really see any really good looking women. Just trashy hill billy chicks, and they're rather disgusting.
