Unless you own the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area we will not be playing there anytime soon.

Hey, if your looking for a half-way decent field my team is willing to host some small 5 v 5 matches or something. Our field is about 1 1/2 - 2 acres big and it is pretty well hidden in the woods, we have about 10 different log bunkers, a couple of rusted out cars that work too, also the trees are around 4 feet wide. It's out in Novi by the way. If your interested send me a private whisper or something and maybe we can get a game going.

No not me personally, my team-mate owns the land back there, we couldn't really host anything big though. Most likely a 5 v 5 or something, not really a huge war.

we were also considering pontaic lake recreation area. that has some good potential for some sweet games
The DNR will bust your ass if they catch you playing out at Pontiac Lake. Paintball and Airsoft are not allowed on State land, which Pontiac Lake is
Yes, they have a shooting range and yes they allow hunting, and yes, you could get a day pass, park in one of the obscure little lots off one of the lake roads and NO ONE would ever know you guys were there..... And yes there is some incredible terrain back there, wonderful swamps, oldish growth forest etc
But talk to the rangers. Dont just go play. If you approach them professionally and present a good case you can probably get permission to play out there
Good Luck!

I've tried my hardest to find any laws saying anything of these sorts, and have had no luck doing so. I've searched through all the forums, googled like crazy, e-mailed police, state reps, dnr, etc... Nobody could confirm anything of any laws against playing airsoft on Michigan State owned land. Though they did give me lots of "advice", be sure of that. lol
So please, if you have evidence otherwise, point us all in the right direction, cause I really don't like to think that I'm breaking any laws by playing airsoft in the 1000's of acres of Michigan State owned land up north.
THANKS!

I honestly dont know if its against the law or not, but the rangers I talked to out at Pontiac Lake told me it wasnt allowed on state land
Against park policy and against the law are two different things. I just took it as Im not playing there!
I got the feeling they didnt want to deal with it. But theyve got some prime land out there, some very nice, remote and seldom used spaces. You could park in one of the little lots and go back deep into that desolate area and never see another soul. Perfect. Ive hiked thru some really remote and seldom reached areas in that park
I dont know, finding the right ranger or the park manager and presenting a good case might open an opportunity

.....The fact is, I highly doubt it will be at any " state park's ". Good news is, there are other state owned chunks of land so, it still may be possible to find a nice place. I appreciate your enthusiasm and perseverance Crazyman, But I hate to be the realist needle bursting your bubble and say it seems like a remote possibility Keep trying, the worst they can say is "NO!"

I know it's a very slim chance and the only reason I say that EL, is because that's what I was told by Bill of 21st.
He told me that's how they got permission to use land in Whitehall. Whether or not they really did have permission, I don't know for sure. I just took him for his word.
However, in my opinion, talking to the DNR and Local law enforcement couldn't hurt. You may or may not end up getting permission in the end, but trying can't hurt, either.
Just realize ahead of time that the odds are against you.

when i was looking for land to host "Op: Whisper in the Wind" on, I was trying to get permission to use land owned by the DNR that was right down the street from me. I called their office, and even drove up there, and the first thing they asked me was "What is airsoft".......
so after some explaining, they told me that i could not use the land because it was against DNR policies to have any "firearms" being fired on their property unless it was hunting. They said they didnt want any BB's (or paint, because apparently paintballers used the land and shot signs and such, so they had to go through and clean it all off) all over their land.

Paint splattered everywhere is a big hindrance and seems to stick in every landowners mind and is perhaps the #2 turnoff (next to lawsuits) to letting people play on their land. Then when they finally listen to you and realize youre not talking about paintball, they dont like the 1000's of plastic BB's laying around.
Seems like every conversation Ive had with landowners and developers in Clarkston followed that formula
To help sell a field and the environmental friendliness of airsoft there is a better alternative
Excell Bios take about a year to degrade. Not an instant, but 5-10x less then regular BB's. Thats a good selling point
Next month RJ's Performance in Flint is going to offer a new Bio BB that degrades VERY FAST. Next big rain sort of thing. $12 for 2k bb's. I dont know if they made of alka seltzer or if just lead, mercury and asbestos dust bonded together with snot, but theyre supposed to degrade in glass of water in a couple hours
Im thinking that would go a long way to convincing a landowner that youre not going to be leaving a bunch of crap behind or going to trash his land
Sorry if Im getting off topic here, just trying to help get more fields open in the neighborhood.
I wonder if Spyops is going to get those BB's?

i think another big thing is exactly how you go about asking them, i mean coming out and saying "airsoft" right away might not be the best. i'de say somthing like, "combat training simulation, using non-marking, boidegradable projectiles." and get the names of some business owners who would support you and talk to the DNR, that way they know that it's not just a bunch or people that want to run around and break things.

"Combat training" is definitely going to be a bad word to use. Reenactment and simulation are your friends. Combat training implies that you're training for combat, which implies either that you're a terrorist or a Michigan Militia nutball. Either way, they're not going to say yes to you.
