I'm buying an upgraded TM G3A3. I just might need some help with slowing down the muzzle velocity. As of now, according to seller who just chrono'ed it prior to shipping, it was shooting lowest at 390, maxing at 420 on .20's... or the guy is messing with me to make his gun sound better.
I know some of you are weary of these high velocities, so to keep it fun, I am looking into options to get down closer to the mid 300's. I'm guessing using a .25 bb or higher could get it to a lower speed(by how much?). really don't want to do a reverse upgrade, so I'm open to other options.

I haven't used one, but tokyo marui makes a muzzle velocity reducer, but again im not sure how it functions

The velocity reducer goes on the gun like a silencer, and yes, reduces the speed of the pellet. If you don't want to reverse upgrade, go with that.
Using a heavier bb will NOT reduce the power output of your gun. It will reduce the speed of the gun, but the joules of impact will be the same, because of the fact that you're using a heavier projectile. You don't see Paintball guns shooting more than 325fps most of the time, but they still outrange most Airsoft guns, just because the balls are damn heavy compared to ours.
Best bet is either the velocity reducer(which can be installed inside a silencer if you want to conceal it), or to downgrade to an M100 spring, or an equivelent. I recommend Guarder Springs.
Jack.

Ive been hit with rifle doing 450-550 FPS in open fields. Its not a big deal. The only time we have concerns about velocity is when you have really close engagements, from 15 down to 5 feet. Then the limit is 350 FPS.

Well, seeing as this is my only gun, I don't want to piss anybody off because I just blasted them with a higher powered rifle. I will do my best not to fire in the 15ft range, but when the game is rolling, well suffice to say I don't pull out a yard stick.
And el, yeah you're right... I don't think I'll be getting in too close with a 40+ inch gun.

Just replace your spring with a PDI 150%

AJ, it doesn't matter the FPS, it matters the joules of energy hitting me in the face, if you have a gun shooting 340 gun shooting .25s and it hits me right in the head, i might be pretty pissed, but if you have a gun shootin 340 with .2's, oh well.

Yes, but a 150% spring shouldn't be pumping bbs out at 340fps on .25g, it will be more around the range of 360 w/.2g and (not positive, but 360 x.8 (.2/.25=.8)= 288) 288 w/.25g. But I completely understand what you mean. That whole "Each reaction carries an equal and opposite reaction" thing. Plus, getting hit in the face never feels good

Plus, getting hit in the face never feels good I was shot in the nose once at the Romulus field. I didn't know what happened until Scott told me the top of my nose was bleeding. Theres still a little dent there from the BB strike. As for velocity testing and engagement limits, all tests are done with .20g BB's. Kneif is kind enough to bring his chrono to most games and events the MiA rules are: to 350 arms length 351-600 50 foot 601+ to be determined by organizer the Airsoft Ohio rules are more specific up to 350 none 351-400 25' full auto 401-450 50' semi auto 451-500 75' semi auto the AK that Big Nutz has is around 440 FPS. Ive been hit in the armpit with it at A range of 35' or so, and didn't mind. Some of you may have been hit with my SOCOM, and its at 360. In my opinion, if you're a wee bit over the FPS limit, I don't mind. Should we REALLY get that bent out of shape over 5 or 10 fps?? I donu 't

El, those arn't the right rules for MIA.
1.0 - 350.9 fps - Arms length engagement limit
• 351.0 - 410.9 fps - 20 foot engagement limit
• 411.0 - 550.9 fps – 50 foot engagement limit, bolt action or permanent* semi-auto replicas only
• 551.0+ fps - Prohibited or allowed with permission of event organizer only
