S-System,
You're right, airsoft is aimed at mil sim. But safety *_always_* comes first. It would be much more accurate if all of our guns shot at 600+ fps. I mean, closing time would be reduced drastically and brush wouldn't deflect bbs as easily. Why don't we do that? Because it's not safe. Even if the gun won't necessarily cause excessive tissue damage (like a 500 fps full auto rifle at a certain engagment limit), it might still cause excessive pain. That's also something that we want to avoid as much as possible. This is not a sport in which you try to cause the most pain you can, despite how some japanese organizations may play it. Pain is an unfortunate by-product that we need to limit as much as possible while keeping the game playable. This is what the MiA rules (which are more lenient than many other organizations' rules, like AO for example) try to achieve. If you don't like them, feel free not to attend the games. But if you do attend, you must abide by them.
You may not know this, but a lot of the more dedicated players that I've talked to don't like the PSG-1 or AEGs turned semi-only for the reason that Murdoc cited. They are allowed as a compromise between those people and people who want to use tune their M16s up to 500 fps and use them on full auto. I would much rather not see semi-auto sniper rifles on the airsoft field, but I don't want to tell Andrew that he can't use any of his guns . I would like to see ammo limits put on guns like the PSG-1 and other semi-only AEG snipers, just so Andrew couldn't slap in El's G3 mag and get trigger happy. I don't want 6 500 fps bbs on the way to me. It only takes to put me out of the game (another argument against full auto snipers in the real world vs. airsoft -- A hit isn't necessarily a kill in the real world, it is in most airsoft games).
