Just wanted to bring back up the scenario that had been mentioned at SM2, I believe. Today I was out with my SR-25 trying some stuff out, and my sister happened to have some balloons ;D, so I figured I'd go out and try some stuff with them. The farthest I could get a balloon to pop was between 75-100 feet (my SR-25 is shooting 500 FPS, mind you). Anything I shot between 100-250 feet grazed/bounced off the balloons. So, if we ever got around to trying out a scenario such as this, I thought this info. might be of some use, since people were debating how easy/hard the balloons would be to pop.

They don't pop easy enough.

It would also depend on the ballons, there are the big party type and the little water type, and I'm sure not all of them are made the same.

They were just your standard balloon.

if you blow them up really big, and almost on the verge of breaking im sure they will pop

Water balloons also pop easier.

Hmmmm... for the airsoft skills event, With sniper rifles, we could load two or three shots in, and from like 75 feet, we could do sniping, throwing baloons like you shoot clay pigeons. That would be fun. And Baloons are soposed to pop in the airsoft skills competition, just to see if you hit it or missed it, not to see how hard or how close you are.

This was originally brought up in the Semia Monthly 2 thread, which is why I tested it in the first place. After the fact, El said he was considering this for the skills competition, which is also a good idea (and obviously, yes we do want the balloons popping then), but before the fact, people wanted them harder to pop. As for throwing the ballons up and having a sniper hit them, and them ACTUALLY popping, that would be damn near impossible, especially from +75' or so (the balloon would just fly in whatever direction the BB hit it in, instead of popping. It would need a hard surface behind the balloon to keep it from flying away when getting hit for it to pop). Also, to my knowledge I am the only person that has a gun shooting over 500 FPS (not saying I'm the only, in fact, who else has one?!), but if my gun barely pops it between 75-100', others are going to have a hell of a time.

If you want a target that you have to hit, aluminum pie plates make a satisfying sound that can be heard for quite a distance. Putting a hole through them is pretty easy, too, so no worries about not popping a ballon.

If it can't be busted/triggered/whatever without a stock gun, I don't think it's an option.
EDIT: here's an idea... put a balloon inside a couple pie tins rigged with push pins. Hit the tin, pins go into the balloon, and pop.
