GS, is that you on the right? Wow, you look like you just jumped out of an 80's Hair band. ;D I like the color Scott. All it needs is machine guns for headlights, and an ejector seat, and your set!

Not having to shift takes all the fun out of having a powerful car. You can't get all the performance out of an engine with an automatic, and you cant engine brake.

You get a faster response time with automatic, humans take forever to shift. While I agree its not as fun, its also slower when racing. What the hell is engine braking?

I'm fairly sure engine breaking is when you are traveling at a fast speed and you downshift. the engine over-revs and because of resistance in the transmission, you slow down.

Well, for drag racing, especially bracket racing, an automatic is more efficient. Your goal is to have the most consistent runs possible. You cant have that with a clutch. You can engine brake (slowing down when you let off the gas) with an automatic, but the slippage you get with the impellers makes it less effective than with a manual. modern locking torque converters reduce this inefficiency, but not eliminate it. Now I could go on and on and on about these modern "voodoo juceboxes", but I feel I have corrected all the wrong information so far

Then why are ALLLLLLL race cars sticks? More control. Something you don't have with an auto. I wasn't owned, El just said the positives of an automatic. Any automatic I have been in, when you let off the gas, you just glide. In a stick if you did that.... you slow down pretty dang fast. Also, I have never seen an automatic that will get you through the entire powerband of an engine (without tuning and modification) If I'm gunning it... I dont wana shift at 4.5 grand with a 4 banger in second gear! Also, you cant dump clutch with an auto (unless you feel like break torqueing and blowing up your trans and torque converter) Also, I dont feel like powering out of the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca in 3rd gear at 2 grand LAME! (in a video game, but still true to life ) (edit: also, I don't consider racing going in a straight line, take Nuerburgring for example)

....
I agree with 'stapo.
Not because I know anything about cars or anything.
But because on every racing video game, automatic is for "beginners" and manual is for "advanced"....
And I wanna be advanced.
Suck it Trebek.
