Outbound: Israel

4:30 tomorrow afternoon, a flight will be taking off for a 13 hour non-stop trip to Israel, and I will be on it. As I said in another topic, I'll be there for about 5 weeks.

I'm not a religious guy, I don't really believe in any of that, but I couldn't pass this up.

We're going to all the usual historical sites: Masada, The Western Wall, Jerusalem itself, etc. I'll be taking video, and I've got a gig of memory in my digital camera, so you can all be expecting some cool pictures (Masada at sunrise especially). We're going all over the country, not that that is such a feat, seeing how it's less than half the size of lower Michigan, but with recent events (the situation with the kidnapped soldier and the gaza strip) I should have plenty of pictures of Israeli military hardware.

I'm especially excited for the hike up Masada and Ramat David Air base. I was hoping to get some surplus IDF Combat Vests, unfortunately, Israel doesn't have anything like American Military Surplus stores, so I'm just going to have to stick to IDF/IAF T-Shirts and Hats.

Careful taking pictures of military stuff, you could wind up detained real fast. You should be ok, all the IDF guys I met when I was in Sinai were just like us. Just use your best judgement (which im sure you will)

Yeah it's really not horrible. I was fishing in Canada and one of the guys there was talking about his trip to the middle east. He said as long as you don't do anything stupid, you're fine. As long as you can handle watching some scary stuff. He saw a car blown up for refusing to stop at a checkpoint.

Coincidentally, 9/11 occurred while I was on that same trip..

I had to cross back into America on 9/12.

Update: I spoke with a friend's mom today, who has been in regular contact with Adam and my other friends. He says they are doing good, going ahead as scheduled, with all that's happening, he's due back August 1st, so seems like all is well .
