Yeah I agree with you. I don't listen to new SOAD, they suck in my opinion. Their old stuff is really good though, pretty much the same as Metallica. Metallicas new CDs always end up sucking.

Now, since you specifically asked for top ten bands the groups I listed above would fall into your line of questioning. However, since many of my all time favorite performers are really solo artists with backup bands here is my list of favorite ARTISTS:

Now on to my feelings of NIN. Nine Inch Nails, IMHO, falls under the artist category since it's basically Trent Reznor shutting his musically gifted self in a dark room with some candles, a few cases of red wine, and some BDSM art for a few months and going bat-shit with Pro-Tools. Genius? Of course. Band? No.
