My humble suggestion, to add to those of the moderators, what I would do if I were a young man looking for an airsoft gun, would be to pick out the coolest looking gun that I could remember from a movie, cartoon or video game. If this gun fits into the role you wish to play in airsoft (please don't say sniper) If that is what you want, figure out what they call it in real life and chances are, TM, CA, JG, G&G or another manufacturer probably makes a replica. Airsoft guns, unlike real guns are not higher or lower powered simply based on size and shape. Likewise AEGs are not higher or lower quality simply based on the model of weapon that they are made to immitate. For instance, there are plenty of mp5 models which can easily out perform many M16, AK47 or m14 models. If I were you (I am obviously not you) I would figure out what type of gun you want based on aesthetic appeal, then I would find a model of decent quality. If you look at some of the threads on here and on MIA, you will see many which are written by veteran players and the threads are set up as guides for new players to help you put together your loadout. Troubador is one such fairly experienced player who has all sorts of threads on MIA and he is almost always happy to give advise on purchasing gear.

Had one. They are not to bad either. I would make sure you check current reviews though. I say this because quality control may be different now. Lately I have heard they are quite shitty.

I once had one of those. Don't have it anymore because i sold it for money for a snowboard... Anyhow, the ROF was great, accuracy was decent, no feeding problems, around 340 FPS (from using a poor man's chrono), but it lacked major range. The bb's seemed to just drop out of the sky after 100 feet. It could've just been my replica. Don't let that stop you from getting it. This may help: www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=36508.0 Hope you find what your looking for.

Troub's only begun actually PLAYING not too long ago, he's mostly a poser/shit stirrer, been that way for several years. lol
But, I agree with the idea of looking for a variant that you like, then buying a reputable brand replica. Shouldn't be too hard, most guys know most of the common firearms models and the common models have replicas already produced.
Now, if you want something rare or different than the norm, you may have to research a bit more, but I've seen some of the rarer guns being made over the past couple years so, unless it's ridiculously foreign or something, it's probably been replicated.
