I have a AEG that has been apart for a few years. I would appreciate it if someone could either point me towards a resource for cleaning everything thoroughly or explain to me step by step the process including the cleaning solutions necessary to proceed.
Specific concerns:
- The gearbox shell, gears, piston, tappet plate, bearings, piston head, air cylinder and other various inner parts are somewhat dirty/dusty. Keeping in mind this gun has been apart for some time would it be wise to purchase new parts or can they be cleaned? If they can be cleaned what would be proper way to do so as to avoid damaging them in terms of process and solutions?
- The hop-up and barrel appear fairly dirty and dusty. Assuming I were to take the entire hop-up and barrel apart what would be the best way to go about cleaning these items without damaging them?
- The outer body is fairly dirty/dusty. Are there any solutions I should purchase to clean off the body of the gun? Will removing the dust with a rag suffice for this?
- Lastly, when putting the gun back together what would be proper solutions to use on the gears, piston, piston head, etc? I'm fairly confident that I will be able to put the gun back together but the proper handling of greasing the gears and lubrication of other gearbox parts allude me.
any help appreciated – thanks.

If those parts have been affected by the elements, (rusted, eroded, corroded, ect.) then buy new gears and internals. Please. In order to clean the gears if in good condition, clean with a cotton or soft fabric cloth, then use Airsoft grade silicon oil for the piston and cylinder assembly.
-For the gears and putting them back together, make sure to clean them/ wipe them with a fabric or cotton cloth, then apply some Lithium based grease when placing them back in their place.
-It's always good to have a luby- gearbox. Don't apply too much, though, becuase that can clog anddecrease your weapon's performance.
-Use a cleaning cloth or soft fabric cloth to swap out the barrel and hop-up assembly. Apply a small amount of silicon in the hop-up and barrel if you feel necessary, and some grease on the shell so the whole assembly can slide out with ease.
-If I may make a reccomendation, I use Lith-Ease(R) White lithium grease. ;D
