I remembered my password to this place after not having come here in like 3 years...
I don't know how many of the old members are around anymore that recognize me, but I was just filling out my housing for college next year (University of Michigan Ann Arbor bitches!) and I somehow just remembered this place.
So for anyone out there who remembers me, I was always into building stuff. Over the last 2 years, i have been building a wicked go cart from scratch. Full suspension, roll cage, CVT transmission, 390cc engine, everything. Yeah... It's pretty sexy. Literally everything (except for tires, the clutch, sprockets, etc.) was machined by myself. The brakes are hydraulic brakes off a car, so its got some ballsy stopping power and I just got a 32mm minuki carburetor to swap out the old one. Couple that up with a new billet piston rod, air filter, exhaust header, valve springs, and getting the governor out of it I'm estimating about 6000rpm and around 25-30hp depending on how well i set it up. Even unmodified (13hp, governed to 3600rpm MAX), me and my friends clocked it in at 47mph down a dirt road lol. Shits real.
And just because it was a personal accomplishment for me, that roll cage is made out of 1.5" OD stainless steel tubing that only has a .083" wall thickness. My friend and I cut, bent, notched, and welded it over the course of 9 hours in one day using nothing but a chop saw with metal blades, an old manual tube bender, and a Lincoln 225 amp AC/DC stick welder with some 3/32 stainless steel electrodes. I don't know how many of you have tried to weld something that thin with a stick welder, but that sucks in general. Now, add in the fact that i had to notch the tubes with a chop saw and all the bend radii were found using some cheap home depot angle finder thing. That roll cage was hard as hell to make.
