What's the best way to get permission to play on a field? How do you hunt down the owners? If on public land (park) who do you call? A friend who's big on re-enactments says he just calls the Oakland Sheriffs to tell them he's lighting a flamethrower. He seem to think that's all I'd have to do. I feel that a few people playing with a flamethrower is different than a 1/2 dozen or more peeps shooting each other with realish looking weapons. And another question. If parks rules say no paint ball has anyone tried asking about air soft? Explaining no paint and bio-degradable BBs? I ask because I spent some time walking around Bear Creek Park (Orion & Snell Rd)in Rochester last week. Looked great and is pretty big Until I saw the park rules. Hence the paintball vs. airsoft question. More pictures of the lower half (yes only half of the park)of the park are found at s7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/LordNth/Scenery/?start=0

I would have to say you will NOT get permission to use a public park such as this for airsoft.
If it says no paintball, there not going to allow airsoft. You can explain the diffrences, but all they will do is ammend the rules buy adding "Airsoft" next to "Paintball"
If you want to find a field, youre better off with private property.
I prolly should lock this, but I wont

I've contacted the DNR and the police about pretty much the same topic, only difference is, where I'd like to play is a very remote plot of land. I have been out in those woods atleast a hundred times and I have only seen someone else out there 4 times. So, it's not a very popular place really and it would be perfect..
It would be nice if people understood the whole airsoft thing, but, most don't.
The only information they gave me was, we were not allowed to use marking paints etc.. Also, no building on the land ( obviously ) But, niether the DNR or the Police could give me a direct and clear cut answer. They simply don't understand the whole thing. So, most likely, you will get the same type of information, but, good luck!

Thanks for the info. I accually found this park by looking fo a place to park. See the same friend that plays with the flamethrower has property down the hill, just West of the park. He has one of the (out of 3 maybe?) lots just to the lower left of the map. I was accually going to scout his property to see if it's a good place for Airsoft. He told me that there are a few steep ridges on the property. 1st he wants me to scout the lot, see if it's a good/safe place to play. After that we'll worry about signing wavers and such. After I look that location I'll post pictures to see what the more knowledgable airsofters thing of it. Right now the only picture I have is the broken gate.

well last i checked a bb flyen at 300fps would be considered a projectile. It is a projectile. On the up side for us, its not considered a "Dangerous projectile", and therefore not a firearm under Michigan law. (Don't argue with me here. This is the official decicion of the state attorney general) If you have found some private property, and I hope you did, best of luck. Hopefully the owner is understanding

I disagree. One of the Navy recruiters here in Port Huron got arrested for having a bb gun fight in his backyard with a neighbor kid. They were using the crappy springs you buy at dunhams and such. Again, ARRESTED. They let him go, but took his guns away. City ordinance says absolutely no projectiles fired within the city. The cop said he could arrest you for shooting a damn nerf gun if he wanted to. Granted I'm sure he's just being an asshole, but still. Be careful.

Even if you got permission to play here, it is open to the public so there would be people there. The only park area I could ever see airsoft being allowed in is a private camping area.

Hopefully the owner is understanding el your absoloutly right however there are individual city "ordanances" that can cause problems.for instance i do believe that dearborn has an ordanance to the effect of" NO pocket knives whatsoever" however state law says you can carry any sized knife you want but if you "go armed with a knife with the intent to do bodily harm you shall not go armed with a knife over three inches" although dearborn does not enforce the no knives rule, unless your acting stupid then they will fuck with u the morale of this story is i suggest that you always check with individual city pd's
